In the world of fashion influencers, the mixing of digital media and fashion lies at the heart of what we do. Chictopia started out of realizing that the fashion industry lacked innovation, especially when it came to technology. And look at us now!
So when talking about digital media and fashion, the question becomes where do we go next?
This october, we sponsored an event called MediaThon: Future Fashion, a day long event where people gather to collaborate and compete by making media to tackle a specific problem or idea and push the boundaries of how we look at things. A group of media makers re-envisioned how our lives will evolve as we express ourselves through wearable art and technology.
The topic of the definition of style in media resonated with us in particular, because as a player in the ever-evolving digital fashion world, Chictopians help to redefine what style and fashion are. As tastemakers and icons, the ability to influence an entire generation belongs to just about anyone these days. Even you.
Building on that idea, the winners of the event created a spoof on celebrities and their desire to become designers. A team of four media makers created a hilarious video entitled “Future of Fashion with King da King”, having never met each other and only a couple of hours to conceptualize, shoot, and edit the video. While poking fun at certain celebrities (we will let you determine who you think best fits), the underlying theme of digital influence and what truly is considered “fashion” in this age were apparent. Helen, who served on the judging panel and a HUGE fan of comedy, couldn’t help but laugh at both irony and the relevance.
Ultimately, the take away from the MediaThon was two-fold. It was amazing to see the collaboration efforts of content creators and their ability to crank out quality, thought provoking, and consumable media in such a short amount of time. Secondly, It shows that everyone who is in this space, designers, videographers, Instagrammers, YouTubers, and more are producing content that is helping to shape the future of fashion and technology.
We know that not only the winners of the MediaThon, but all Chictopians have that passion to make their mark on the fashion world. With the digital space becoming as big as it is, it’s become incredibly possibly to do so. How are you rethinking, reimagining, and redefining the future of fashion?
