favorite Chictopian post Right now, I would have to say this post from turquoisepassion. The combination of pieces is just stunning, in my opinion. Simple but beautiful.
I was the lucky one who found out the grandma blazer finally got redeemed. I really loved that piece, but it was (probably) too small for me, so I didn’t redeem it. When I found out who did redeem it, I was happily surprised it got a good home with my dearest chictopian friend headbandit the most creative EIU contributor out there, if you ask me. I definitely needed to interview her and ask some questions about her style and plans with that lovely blazer.
Congrats Heather, you’re the lucky one to redeem this gorgeous blazer for only 4000 Chicpoints, a bargain if you ask me (since Chicpoints are free). Why did you finally decide to redeem it? Well, initially, I felt the same way most people did – “Why is this up for 4000 points?” But I found myself checking up on it quite frequently and it started to grow on me. For sure, it is not as breathtaking as it was, but I imagined what it could become with some ironing and embellishment. In August, I decided that if it was still there by the time I had gathered 4000 points, I would redeem it. And so I did!
You’ve made me so curious these last couple of weeks, what exactly have you done with it? I’ve embellished the shoulders with vintage watches, pins, buttons, and chains. I was inspired by the strong/embellished shoulders trend from past seasons, and also the current military/band jacket trend. Luckily, the blazer fits me just perfectly, so I didn’t have to do any tailoring. I’ve also replaced the missing button. You can see the final result here
That sounds simply amazing, I can’t even imagine!! Was this the first time you redeemed something? How is your experience with the chic rewards section? This was the second item I’ve redeemed on Chictopia, I first redeemed these sunglasses in the summertime. I think the rewards are a great feature on Chictopia, and members should be more grateful for it. I think the prices are generally reasonable. I can understand how someone might not want to spend their hard-earned points, but we need to remember- these items are still free. I feel very lucky that I am able to be rewarded for simply being a part of this amazing community.
Both of the items I have redeemed have arrived promptly and were exactly, if not better than described.
I couldn’t have said it any better!! Besides a gifted DIYer you’re also a contributor for EIU, why did you decide to apply for the EIU position? Before I became interested in fashion design, I was more into fashion editing and graphic design. I always thought it would be fun to work for a fashion magazine, and EIU was a way for me to explore this interest, in a way. I have also been doing a lot of DIY projects and I needed a platform to share my ideas with others. I decided to do this through EIU because I felt I could reach a greater community of people as opposed to posting articles on my personal blog.
That’s an excellent idea and I think it’s for the benefit of EIU to have someone posting DIY-posts on there. Your ideas for DIY projects are always so creative, where do you find your inspiration? Thank you! I spend a lot of time on websites like net-a-porter.com and style.com, looking at ready-to-wear and runway trends. I like to try to recreate styles or pieces that I love, but can’t afford to buy. To quote Jane Aldrige from Sea of Shoes (http://www.seaofshoes.com), I have a dangerous right-click habit. I have files upon files on my computer of things I like. Whenever I’m lacking inspiration, I sift through those.
Are your projects always successful? No, only recently I tried to make a DIY screen-printing tutorial on how to make this Marc Jacobs scarf. It did not turn out well. (this explains the lack of tutorials, sorry!) I will be attempting a similar project soon, because I really do want to do a screen-printing tutorial. Whenever something goes wrong I will try to do the project again, or a variation on it. Sometimes though, I get too frustrated and give up completely.
Tell us about your artsy background. Where did you learn to be this creative? My mother is a graphic designer turned art teacher, so I guess I learned from her. However. I don’t think creativity is something that can be taught, more like encouraged or nurtured. As a child, I was always doing art projects with my mother, she helped my creative side to grow.
I became more interested in fashion about two years ago. I’ve always been a quiet person, and as clichéd as it sounds, fashion was my way of making a statement.
I was a quite person too, but I never thought about that. It never even came to mind to do anything with fashion before, although it has always been obvious to my friends and family. How would you describe you signature style? Well, I have an idea in my head of what I want my signature style to be, but I don’t think what I wear always reflects that…I’m drawn to super-feminine accents like lace, tulle, pastels and florals…and then I mix those pieces with lots of darks colors and textured accessories. However, I’m young, so I still want to have the freedom to try out trends (good and bad), and wear outrageous things sometimes, without being bound to a certain “look.”
I guess I am the same, I know what I really LOVE, styles like FashionZen, MSignature and Chaba, but I don’t tend to dress that way on a daily basis. If you were about to leave to a sunny island and you’re only allowed to bring one garment, what would you bring and why? Hm…a bathing suit? Nah, I’d probably bring a romper. I love rompers for hot weather, and they can be dressed up or down. (You know, in case there was some sort of party on this remote island. Maybe I could weave a necklace out of grasses.)
Great idea, want to go to THAT island in the wink of an eye. You’ve been a chictopian member for a while now. What gets you to log in on a daily basis? I originally joined Chictopia about a year or more ago, but I didn’t actually get involved and start uploading pictures until June of this year. My first post was to enter a contest, but after I spent a while on the site, I discovered all of the cool new features that didn’t were there at all when I first joined.
Now, I log on every day for inspiration when I’m getting dressed in the morning, to update my own chicblog (I’ve been trying to post more frequently), check out new rewards and occasionally write a review or post at the forum.
Which Chictopians are your main inspiration and why? I love the styles of chichichicjb (she’s always so put together and her style is so elegant), constance_victoria (also simply elegant, with a darker edge), lissakahayon (she accessories beautifully), hawaiikidd (he’s not afraid of color or pattern and is so great at layering) and kisforkani (I want her style! She’s so girly and sweet, and I love how she mixes patterns)
Any last words? Thank you Angie, for interviewing me, and to all of the Chictopians who read this article!
And I would love to thank you too; Heather I hope we get to see more of your creative work!! And thank you my dearest Chictopians for reading!!
